SURVIVING V-DAY AS A SINGLE

I've been without a Valentines date for a couple of years before I met my partner and believe me - I had my share of disappointments, worries and loneliness especially when Vday comes. So to help out those single ladies out there, here are some of the tips I've got to survive Valentines Day.

STAY AT HOME:
It' would be easy as Valentines Day this year falls on a Sunday. Just watch your favorite DVD or sleep all day. You need that extra energy for another busy work week tomorrow.

BLOCK COMPARISONS:
Don't spend time measuring yourself against happy couples. Remember, just because a person is partnered up on V-Day doesn't necessarily mean she's blissed out.

TURN OFF THE TV:
Made it through the day? Don' toss it all int a heart-shaped hamper by watching mushy, romantic TV shows. Rent a funny DVD instead.

GAB WITH PALS:
Commiserate with friends. It's perfectly okay to bring up your single gal pals and celebrate "Independence" instead of V-Day

Saved At Sea

Found this very touching story from a christian problogger about a man's sacrifice to save another's soul...

"After a few of the usual Sunday evening hymns, the church’s pastor once again slowly stood up, walked over to the pulpit, and gave a very brief introduction of his childhood friend. With that, an elderly man stepped up to the pulpit to speak, “A father, his son, and a friend of his son were sailing off the Pacific Coast,” he began,” when a fast approaching storm blocked any attempt to get back to shore. The waves were so high, that even though the father was an experienced sailor, he could not keep the boat upright, and the three were swept into the ocean.

The old man hesitated for a moment, making eye contact with two teenagers who were, for the first time since the service began, looking somewhat interested in his story He continued,” Grabbing a rescue line, the father had to make a excruciating decision of his life…..to which boy would he throw the other end of the line. He only had seconds to make the decision.

The father knew that his son was a Christian, and he also knew that his son’s friend was not. The agony of his decision could not be matched by even the torrent waves. “As the father yelled out.’ I love you son!’ he threw the line to his son’s friend. By the time he pulled the friend back to the capsized boat, his son had disappeared beyond the raging swells into the black of night. His sons body was never recovered.”

By this time, the two teenagers were listening very attentively, waiting for the next words to come out of the old man’s mouth.” The father,”continued,”knew his son would step into eternity with Jesus, and he could not bear the thought of his son’s friend stepping into an eternity without Jesus. Therefore, he sacrificed his son.Oh, how great is the love of God that He should do the same for us!”

With that, the old man turned and sat back down his chair as silence filled the room. Within minutes after the service ended, the two teenagers were at the old man’s side.” That was an awesome story,” said one of the boys,” but I don’t think it was very logical for a father to give up his son’s life in hopes that the other boy would become a Christian.”

“Well, you’ve got a point there, the old man replied, glancing down at his down his worn Bible. A big smile broadened his narrow face, and he once again looked up at the boys and said,” It sure isn’t very logical, is it? But I’m here today to tell you the fact THAT story gives me a glimpse of what it must have been like for God to give up His Son for me.”

“You see, a boy….I was the son’s friend.”

Everything For His Child

My soon to be sister in law Ate Melody sent me this touching and warm story of a man and his son... It's so touching that I cant control my tears from flowing as the story reminds me of God's goodness to my life. I have'nt been in a church service for four years now and I really miss my fellowship with the Lord. I hope and pray that I would have the courage to go back to Him and revive back the passion I have before when all I think about is to please the Him in everything I put my hands on. Here's an incredible video about the relationship between a father and son.... and God's relationship with us...

AWESOME DAD

A son asked his father, 'Dad, will you take part in a marathon with me?'...

The father who, despite having a heart condition, says 'Yes'.....

They went on to complete the marathon together.

Father and son went on to join other marathons, the father always saying

'Yes' to his son's request of going through the race together....

One day, the son asked his father, 'Dad, let's join the Ironman together.'
To which, his father said 'Yes' .

For those who don't know, Ironman is the toughest triathlon ever.

The race encompasses three endurance events of a 2.4 mile (3.86 kilometer)

ocean swim, followed by a 112 mile (180.2 kilometer) bike ride, and ending

with a 26.2 mile (42.195 kilometer) marathon along the coast of the BigIsland.

Father and son went on to complete the race together. View this:

You are the child and God is the father... no matter how tough the road is and how dreams sometimes seems impossible for us to achieve...remember that God is always there to push you, to hold you, and to carry you especially if the burden is too much for us to take.... You can't doubt His promises...besides He've already proved how much He loves you...right at the cross....

HAVE YOU WATCHED THEM SLEEP?

“Have you ever watched your parents while they were asleep?

Your father’s body, once big and strong

but now the big is withered and the strong is weaker.

Wisps of grey peek out from his hair,

wrinkles now “scar” his forehead and face.

“This man works hard every day and would sacrifice anything

to make sure his family is provided for

and his children get the best education possible.

“Or how about your mother, whose soft hands once cuddled

and held you close when you were a baby?

Now, those hands are dry and rough,

bearing evidence of the challenges she faced just for us.

“This woman takes care of our daily needs,

constantly nagging and scolding us because of her love for us.

But sadly, we often misconstrue her love as control and unfairness.”

I have never thought of watching my parents while they slept.

I’ve watched my cousins sleep when they were babies,

all round and cuddly and sweet smelling.

But watch my parents? No way!

But after reading this message,

I realized that there was indeed much truth in it.

In fact, my parents do not have to be asleep for me to realize that they have aged..

Just looking at my mother walk tells me that her legs are not as strong as they were before.

Or hearing her ask me for help with that flowerpot in the garden,

the one she used to be able to push and drag around the garden without my help.

Or watching my dad lift a 10kg bag of rice.

I can easily carry that bag now. I am young. But to him, it is a struggle.

What do all these observations tell me?

Yes, my parents have aged. They are ageing, just as I am ageing.

But as I age towards my best years and become stronger,

they in turn are becoming weaker.

They were once the caregivers and I the receiver.

In time, I know our roles will reverse. Like it or not, want it to or not, this is life.

I suppose I have always subconsciously thought that my parents would always be with me,

never growing old. It took that message to make me realize that my parents are not immortal.

That they too, will one day leave the world and me.

Until then, I will make good use of our time together.
